Time has come for India

India cover story in the TIME

Frankly all the frenetic development around makes me nervous. Things like eco-harmony are not in vogue still and invoking them would make you sound like an irksome tree-hugger.

We have already started seeing the effects (26th July for instance). And more will follow.

"Prosperity and progress haven't touched many of the nearly 650,000 villages where more than two-thirds of India's population lives."

The point to note is that development is NOT reaching rural/backward areas. Infact rich are getting richer and poor the poorer.

Look at rising prices of vegetables, groceries, petrol, gas, property, bank interest. Look at the increase in taxes. Forget lower class, it has begun to affect middle class people. Savings is decreasing, all money goes in buying basic necessity.

The picture is just picture of the cities whereas majorly India is still OLD!

Technology is booming but living is getting ruined.

I am sure there are virtues in living simply. But from the present scenario, one would feel that only massive development and industrial growth/technological progress is capable of alleviating the thousands of Indians from poverty.
I am certainly not for such unchecked "progress" for the exact reasons that you mention. And also, coz there is no end to human greed.
This development looks like a mirage, wherein a few problems are solved to creat far more subtler, but bigger problems.
For now, this present development idealogy may work. A few years from now, people may realise the evils.
