F*ckWorthless Louis Rule

I was following the cricket score on the web and suddenly I see, the West Indies have won. So what if they scored 140 runs in 20 overs. You just can't gift them a match for that.

I don't know why we keep following the ridiculous law even after such a long time.
Either play the match full the next day or start fresh. Or even share the points. But the current logic is just absurd.

Duckworth and Lewis (D/L) method is the most logical method in my opinion because it considers overs left and wickets fallen/left, resources available to team batting 2nd and chances that team can take. Its not just based on runrate.

Like team with 1 wicket left has less chance to make 40 runs in 8 overs than 5-6 wickets in hand. So it has some logical point system per wicket and the wicket number of the partnership and also the overs left.

It also mathematically considers the scenario say for example match is reduced to say 25 overs after first team scored say 250 runs in 50 overs. Then 2nd team is considered to have high resources as it can afford to slog even if they lose some wickets. So instead target 126 runs they are required to chase about 150 runs (not an exact figure).

However 20 over rule (which was 25 over rule about few years back) is ICC rule not D/L. So blaming D/L is not fair in my opinion.

Yes result was unpredictable yesterday.

As per ICC each team should have played atleast 20 overs to make a match.

I suggest that it should be minimum 20 overs to make a match but for overs below 30*, the difference of runs scored to runs to be made should not be higher than 125.

This is somewhat like follow-on rule in test match which implicitly assumes that it is possible to get a team out in 200 runs. Hence bowling team should be given chance to bowl them out again instead of batting again.

Same way for oneday it should be considered that it is possible to bowl a team out in 125 runs hence result can not be guaranteed if the score difference is higher. The batting team could either make to target or can also fall apart.

D/L method should be applied only then.

* 30 over rule should be applied only if first team played atleast 40 overs else minimum 20 over rule is sufficient. There is still some fine tuning to be done but this is just a rough idea.
